We just left a year in which a U.S. presidential election and a superstorm were voted among the top stories. It was a big year for social media as well, as the social-video space teemed with users swarming Pinterest and Tumblr to present their visual inspirations, while Instagram, purchased by Facebook, became the most popular photo-sharing network, swelling to 100 million users. And with more than 100 million views in just six days, Kony 2012 – a deeply gripping, half-hour film about love and kids themed through the story of the Ugandan children preyed upon by notorious child abductor Joseph Kony, with a call to bring the decades-long kidnapper to justice – became the most viral video in history.

The third most-viral video of the year surely got an assist from my wife, who this Christmas presented me with several pairs of boxer shorts carrying a flock of screaming cartoon birds on them. So it was that I learned of the Angry Birds phenomenon. and

It was a big year for, too. In 2012, we launched to broaden our social media reach and provide customers with the most comprehensive social media content management program available. As social media surges forward at the speed of light, it is abundantly clear that this compelling medium is hugely beneficial to our client base and new customers as well. Impressive numbers about the field’s growth and success rate continue to amaze.

For instance:

  • More than 80 percent of small to midsized businesses plan to increase their use of social media in 2013.
  • 87 percent of those businesses say that social media has helped them either somewhat or a great deal in the past year.
